Auld and New in Edinburgh was published in April 2024 as part of Hardie Grant’s Curious Travel Guides series. It’s my love letter to my favourite city, featuring over 100 of the brilliant Edinburgh businesses and attractions I’ve discovered over my years of visiting.

There are chapters on cafés and coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and bars, shopping, dreich days (indoor attractions for when it rains) and dry days (when it doesn’t!).

Whether it’s your first time in Edinburgh or you’re a frequent visitor, hopefully you’ll find something to inspire you. As well as big-name sights like Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and National Museum of Scotland, the book also includes some of the city’s more unusual attractions, like secret gardens, speakeasy-style bars and subterranean streets.

The book is split into neighbourhoods to help you navigate the city, with suggested full and half-day itineraries for the Old Town, New Town, Stockbridge and Leith. There are also suggested day trips to Inchcolm Island, North Berwick, Glasgow and St Andrews if you want to venture further afield. And lots of tips for navigating the city like a local.
